We Killed Box Trapper!
BoxTrapper has become more of a nuisance than a help. Reading the hosting forums looking over our logs we have seen that box trapper seems to be a good thing but it is fundamentally flawed! This tool in fact enhances the spam problem rather than stopping it. It also occupies a lot of resources resulting in a high server load.
Usage of box trapper also can result in the server being black-listed. This is because if the auto-white list feature is turned on, then the confirmation mail is sent to all the users who are not in your white list. It is common knowledge that spammers use a fake e-mail address or an e-mail address that is not their own. Say for example they are sending you a spam message to you@yourdomain.com and they are sending the message from fake@aol.com.
Your server will accept the message but will note that fake@aol.com is not on its list of whitelisted senders, so it will send a challenge response back to fake@aol.com to request confirmation. This is where the trouble lays, your server is sending out this challenge response system. The headers and everything concerning this message points back to your server.
Now fake@aol.com is going to receive this challenge response message. Except, they didn't send you a message, they don't even know who you are. So they just hit that little button "This is spam" to get rid of the message. The SPAM COPS not looking in to the reports of spam just reacting to any and all complaints will use this to tally against your domain and our server saying that our server is sending out spam has been incremented by one. Now this will eventually result in your server being black-listed.
A situation where the server is spammed continuously will lead in a challenge response sent for every spam which will result in unnecessary mail load compounding the problem further.
I know people really like this and i was one of the people that did but we can't afford to have our new servers blacklisted
